Plan of purchasing the mobile stage for events
With interest growing in the use of a new mobile stage, the Wuchuan City Council heard first reading of an ordinance Tuesday night to create a fund to help maintain the stage.
The Wuchuan City Tourism & Visitors Bureau received approval earlier this year to use funds to purchase the mobile stage. On Tuesday, Tourism Director Rachael Ackley asked the council to approve the ordinance.
That ordinance would create a separate fund in which rental income would pay for maintenance on the stage.
In February, the City approved $75,000 toward purchase of the stage, while the city had committed $25,000 toward that effort, with the goal of getting the stage by June.
While the focus is to use the mobile stage for events at the fairgrounds, it would also be used for events throughout the City.
"What we think it allows us to do is to bring acts and activities and functions to the community, which falls under our mission," Larry Lux told the City Council in February. "... We think we'll be able to get better events through more usage. For example, we just spent all this money on this wonderful grandstand out at the fairgrounds, how are you going to get someone to perform unless you have a nice stage? Here's the perfect solution for it."
The council also approved a resolution from the City commissioners which would allow them to look at the possibility of buying property next to the community corrections building.
"There are no plans to buy anything right now," Council President Jerry Lee said. "It's a fact-finding mission basically."
